Now that the snow has made its first appearance for the winter I figured it was time to re-cap CDC’s busy summer/fall outdoor training season.
July and August were busy trial months for CDC. July long weekend we hosted a CKC herding trial and some really great Arena and Stockdog runs. July 8-9 was AAC Agility, August 10 was AAC Agility, and August 26-27 was our CKC Agility trial. We always have such a great crew of handlers and dogs attending our events and it makes for a fun and relaxing time. We definitely have plans for lots of trials again next summer.
The end of August a few of the CDC students headed to the ACDCC herding trials and I was very fortunate to also complete my herding judge apprenticeship. I am now officially Alberta’s only CKC Herding Trial Judge. I am looking forward to judging our SCKC trials next summer. With some hard work hopefully Slick will be trialing next year and we can work towards our AHBA Herding Judge as well.
In September the Canadian Kennel Club put out a list of 2022 Top Multi-Discipline Dogs. I was so excited to see that our very own Vucko was the only Herding Dog in all of Canada to place in the top 10 in 4 different disciplines! He was #1 Australian Cattle Dog in Obedience, #5 Australian Cattle Dog in Rally-O, #5 Australian Cattle Dog in Agility and #8 Australian Cattle Dog in Herding (with only his 3 Advanced runs!). He really is a talented boy and I am very proud of him.
October we carried on with our outdoor herding to try and get as many sessions in the big fields as we could. We are now gearing up for breeding season for the sheep and our indoor herding sessions. We are headed back to the Sturgeon Agriplex once again and we are looking forward to staying warm and out of the snow!
Thank you to all of the Students and competitors who have supported us this season. We are extremely proud of all of you and your accomplishments. There are so many new titles, High in Trials and personal bests to celebrate.
